Russ Holland seeks another term as District 1 Seat of the Powhatan County Board of Supervisors
The Powhatan County Public Library is presenting free beginner level computer classes Sept. 5th, 12th and 19th from 10:30am - 11:30am. The series of 3 classes will begin with Microsoft Word, then move on to Web searching and email usage. The instructor is Karen W. Scott, a licensed occupational therapist with experience in assistive technology instruction. To register, call the Library at 598-5670. Class size is limited.
The Faith Word Church located at 3895 Old Buckingham Road (in the Powhatan Courthouse area) is having its Annual Yard & Bake Sale on Saturday, May 19th from 8 AM until 2 PM.
Come early to get Mrs. Tyler’s “world famous” Buttermilk and Lemon Chess Pies. For more information, call Mrs. Sharon Bassett at (804) 320-5080.
The annual Memorial Musical Show will be held on May 27th @ 3:30 pm. at Powhatan High School. This is a musical tribute which honors Veterans of all wars and the men and women who are presently deployed around the world to protect our freedom. The pictures of Powhatan Veterans and Military will be on display. The event is free to the public.

When I read the news that Powhatan County was about to get its very own state park, I got a little excited. You see, I don’t know much about the county. The Times-Dispatch recently did a Stepping Out profile of Powhatan, which was a good starter. I’ve considered taking a trip to the Powhatan Wildlife Management Area, but need to pick a warmer time (and outside of hunting season, right?) What else is there to see and do? What are the favorite attractions for the area? Don’t tell me that heading into Chesterfield is the only fun thing to do in Powhatan!

-The Goochland-Powhatan Master Gardener Horticultural help desk will have a person on duty at the Powhatan Extension Office from 9 a.m.- 12 noon.
